Success In Life Is Being True To Yourself

Golden Buddha

Success in life starts with finding our who you are…

What do need as achievements for you consider to yourself a success in life? I’ve been contemplating that more frequently as I’ve crossed into the over 50 group. The standard question comes to mind of “who am I really?” I’m not my work (as has been my primary focus which often subsumes alloted hours daily), not what others think I am but, who I have always longed to be, what brings me happiness?

Regardless of whether I am that person or not at this time, this is the drive that will power the rest of my life and leave a legacy for others to build upon. If you have been thinking similarly, I’ve got a secret to share… if you have a burning desire to be something other than what you are right now (and all  of us do!), then it stands to reason, the power that be afforded you the capability to succeed at being that person. What a relief right !

In our society, we often have others tell us so frequently their cynical perspective that we begin to believe and project their story onto our own. Worse still, as in the story of the Golden Buddha from the movie Finding Joe, we get covered in a layer of cement that obscures our innermost desires and dreams that bring joy and fulfillment, success to our life.

The Master Key Experience has helped me start this process of defining my success in full alignment with my inner drives and desires. Subscribe to the right and I’ll send you a downloadable pdf “7 Days to a New Life”. The exercise within its pages will help you start chipping away the clay and cement that hides the successful life you really want to achieve.

Success In LifeBetter still, I’ll share with you some of the things I’ve learned and introduce you to the themes and tools the Master Key Master Mind Alliance gave me to start my quest; my hero’s journey and how to be a success in life. Once your begin to seek the truth, and disover the gold within your Golden Buddha, nothing else will satisfy you. The choice is yours to bring lasting success or continue on the path you are currently on…

Transform Your Self Confidence With Positive Thinking

Self Confidence

The Search for Self Confidence

Self confidence exercises combined with positive thinking queues from within the Master Key Master Mind Alliance training has been a great start to my new life as a self-direct conscious being. I know that sounds a bit odd but, let share with you what I mean.

Most people on this planet walk around, going through their daily grind asleep; yes, nearly on autopilot and certainly without recognizing most of what they are doing. More importantly, many live a life of “quiet desperation” talking to themselves in the most derogatory terms that they would never use with a loved one, their favorite pet or even most strangers. It would be clearly recognized as rude, anti-social and likely not be tolerated. Yet, we call ourselves names, curse, threaten and degrade our performance on a regular basis.

What You Think Of Yourself Is Much More Important Than What Other People Think Of You. ~ Seneca

Self-confidence is obviously a fantasy… Given the 24-7 onslaught from none other than, you guessed it, YOU!

If you are not a part of this self-flagellating crowd, I am happy beyond words for you and for those around you as they flock to see what makes you tick, and observe in hopes that some of that self-assurance (likely seen as bravado) will rub off on them and they too can enjoy the glow that eliminates from that light from within.

For the rest of you, you probably have tried a multitude of course, books, yoga, meditation, scriptures and maybe even spent thousands on a weekend retreat or two with some guru who said he or she had the path to discover your purpose and align yourself with your inner being. Guess what… the moment you left that nurturing environment, you crumpled under your own criticisms. Am I right? Take solace in the fact that you are most certainly not alone!

5 Daily Habits

Here are 5 self confidence solutions you can try today, and continue as a daily habit to build your confidence like putting one foot in front of the other…

  1. Reflect on a wonderful moment from the past 24 hrs. You will be amazed at how you will begin to find more and more of them to fill your mind with self confidence that, in fact, your life is not going to hell in a handbasket or better still you’ll find little successes that lead to greater ones over time.
  2. Write down 3 things you are grateful for in your life or that you have accomplished. These can be little things like your husband rinsed his dish before putting it into the dishwasher, your son or daughter asked for your help in doing their homework or practicing shooting hoops. For me, I tend to see the wonder in nature and am grateful every morning for some fantastic songbird greeting me as I rise to a new day.
  3. Do something physical, exercise a bit. It doesn’t need to be hitting the gym for a full on session it can be as simple as walking up the stairs in your house and then down and up again. Just something the you can take satisfaction in that you accomplished again for you.
  4. Now, find someone for whom you can perform any simple and random act of kindness for. Smile at someone; who knows, you may be the warmth that turns a cold day into blissful sunshine for another. Hug your kids longer before they leave for school. Maybe a bit longer of a welcome home kiss for your wife or husband (or boyfriend/girlfriend). If you can find a way to do something without them knowing it was you, it is even better. It’s good to have secrets related to doing things for others and not getting credit for it. Karma pays dividends in so many ways…
  5. Last but, my favorite, take time to sit and think in a quiet place all to your self. In the book The Master Key System by Charles F Haanel, Part 12-25 he says, “The intention governs the attention. Power comes from repose.” In the Master Mind we call this time our “Sacred Sit”, the last thing we do before going to bed so our mind is clear and focused ready for a night of rest and open for intuition. You would be amazed at what a little alone thinking time will do to build your inner strength. Push back on the pressures and just settle into clear and focused thought on asking for the answers you need to live your life in balance and on purpose.

These 5 daily habits (yes, you must do them long enough to become habits) will boost your self confidence and increase positive thinking in subtle and small ways until one day, you come to recognize the simplicity of it all.

This is how is was for me. Going through the Master Key Master Mind Alliance course, over 6 months of 3 times a day tasks, exercises and remoulding my mental blueprint has set me on the road I have been searching for most of my adult life.

Challenges seem smaller, partnership failures shrink to their proportionate size and the richness of my simple life, nature and close relationships expand to make me so grateful I am alive and making progress towards my goals.

As Seneca once said,

It’s Not Because Things Are Difficult That We Dare Not Venture. It’s Because We Dare Not Venture That They Are Difficult.

Week 23 – I Can’t Get No Permanent Satisfaction

I Can't Get No Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones

Haanel spoke in Part 23 – 22 about “Permanent Satisfaction” and it struck me as a culmination of many of the readings we’ve been asked to study over the many weeks in the Master Key System course. Let me quote the full sentence I am speaking of…

“Now concentrate on the fact that man is not a body with a spirit, but a spirit with a body, and that it is for this reason that his desires are incapable of any permanent satisfaction in anything not spiritual.” Wow, explains a lot doesn’t it about job satisfaction, relationship not based on ideals and money matters of all kinds. We chase after elusive concepts of money, reward and satisfaction but, how many of us continually miss the mark? If we do occasionally hit the bulls-eye, the positive energy often quickly dissipates and we go in search of new “greener pastures like a dandelion blown away in the wind. Our hearts tell us this is not as it should be.

That being said, the largest portion of the human race a buffeted like driftwood in the sea, never knowing what shore we will come to light on at sunrise. Our Scroll VI exercises are helping us become Masters of our Emotions, thus bringing some stability but, there just must be more than just defensive plays in our book.

Again, Haanel speaks to this in several paragraphs in Part 23. First, 23 – 4; “The forces of life are volatile; they are composed of our thoughts and ideals and these turn into form; our problem is to keep an open mind, to reach out constantly for the new, to recognize opportunity, to be interested in the race rather than the goal, for the pleasure is in the pursuit rather than the possession.”

So, let’s summarize a bit; a) we are spirit in body seeking the spiritual knowledge b) satisfaction for a spirit only comes from spiritual experiences c) the lasting joys in life are in the journeys not in the destination or possessions. In my mind, “Permanent Satisfaction” dissipates upon arrival in state where we stop learning and growing or experiencing our Bliss as Joe would say. I know I am still a bit convoluted in my thinking but, here me out on this one.

I spent much of the week parting these thoughts together with the last Haanel exercise wherein we were to “Speak to Him, thou, for He hears, and spirit with spirit can meet, Closer is He that breathing, and nearer than hands and feet.” ~ Lord Alfred Tennyson The last two weeks have brought a crescendo of thoughts and memories of a time when I used to walk and talk (almost in constant prayer) while preparing to be a missionary in my younger days. Thankful for all that happened (good or bad), blessing those I met silently, and experiencing amazing answers to the simplest and most mundane of request. Upon arrival to my appointed missionary assignment, much of that was lost. As Haanel said, I reach my goal and the satisfaction faded.

My point (I think) is that to regret the past or to plan the future is not where the value lies, it is the here and now, the present. If we are not present, in the race, thrilled with the pursuit, grateful for the fight to become what we long to become such that we can serve others in compliance with the law of compensation, it is all for naught! Spend just one hour focused completely on the present.

Being a project manager, it is my job to go through a thousand permutations and plan for many contingencies in direct opposition to Haanel. I am excited that this has opened an experiment of epic proportions for me. I will be adding another card to my 3X daily reads and one for my pocket to remind me always to apply thought and concentration to the race, the pursuit for it is there that I will find Satisfaction. Unlike the Rolling Stones and Mick Jagger, I’ll pursuing things of a more spiritual nature and therefore, Satisfaction will be my reward.

Alfred Tennyson, 1809-1892

“The Higher Pantheism”
from The Holy Grail and Other Poems (London: Strahan, 1870).

THE sun, the moons, the stars, the seas, the hills and
       the plains--
Are not these, O Soul, the Vision of Him who reigns?

Is not the Vision He? tho' He be not that which He
Dreams are true while they last, and do we not live in

Earth, these solid stars, this weight of body and limb,
Are they not sign and symbol of thy division from

Dark is the world to thee: thyself art the reason
For is He not all but thou, that hast power to feel
       'I am I?'

Glory about thee, without thee; and thou fulfillest
       thy doom,
Making Him broken gleams, and a stifled splendour
       and gloom. 10

Speak to Him thou for He hears, and Spirit with
       Spirit can meet--
Closer is He than breathing, and nearer than hands
       and feet.

God is law, say the wise; O Soul, and let us rejoice,
For if He thunder by law the thunder is yet His voice.

 Law is God, say some: no God at all, says the fool;
For all we have power to see is a straight staff bent in
       a pool;

And the ear of man cannot hear, and the eye of man
       cannot see;
But if we could see and hear, this Vision--were it not

Week 20 – You Wake Up Suddenly and You’re In Life

Suddenly - Billy Ocean

I was listening to some really beautiful music and suddenly I saw a new perspective to the lyrics. Given what we have been learning with the Master Key System, suddenly I see that the love I would be singing of would be my renewed love of life. New warmth, kindnesses and observations that make all I see new. It’s just like the first crush; life can be a new experience if, like my master mind friend Robert Rea [Week 19 – So many things Touch ME] urges all he meets to maintain focus on only the moment we are in.

Robert has been able to not only adopt but, more so infuse his entire being with the teaching of Haanel and Og Mandino to the point that people sense his power whenever he is near. Is not this the light shining on a hill that the carpenter from Galilee spoke of. There are many in our midst to emulate, teachers to learn from and brothers and sisters who are on the same “dynamic flow of giving and receiving” we’ve all been yearning for.

Reflect again back to the lyrics and rhythm of Billy Ocean’s song and find the emotions he’s sharing, replace the word love with “Love of Life” where it fits and find your own meaning. The woman he’s courting is the newly revealed golden Buddha, it’s the real you. It’s our future friend from our Thursday night dates.

Now I’m really going to stretch you. Think of the 99.99% nothingness within the atoms that make up all matter, including your body and mine. Haanel tells us that matter is not the ideal MIND is the ideal and is the cause for every effect. As that is the case, then the positive side of all contrasts are the positive polarity we are seeking.

If we are to give more to get more then, to give it to whom? With Emerson’s Law of Compensation, who are we really giving to or taking from if we are in our negative aspect? This yet unnamed love is ourselves via the universal. Now, go through these lyrics again and see if your perspective as the observer has changed, it did for me. Forgiveness had logic not surrender and loss of ego, life had power multiplied like taffy folder over and over on itself to the perfect texture and like this song, waves on the shore I feel a perfect, rhythmic ebb and flow to every effect I create with my mind; the one and only Cause.

Thank goodness I’ve woken up, Suddenly!

Billy Ocean – Suddenly (2009)

I used to think that love was just a fairy tale
Until that first hello, until that first smile
But if I had to do it all again
I wouldn’t change a thing ’cause this love is everlasting

Life has new meaning to me
There’s beauty up above and things we never take notice of
You wake up and suddenly you’re in love

Girl, you’re everything a man could want and more
One thousand words are not enough to say what I feel inside
Holding hands as we walk along the shore
Never felt like this before now, you’re all I’m living for

Life has new meaning to me
There’s beauty up above and things we never take notice of
You wake up and suddenly you’re in love

Each day
I pray
This love affair would last forever
Ooh, hoo

Life has new meaning to me
There’s beauty up above and things we never take notice of
You wake up, suddenly you’re in love

There’s beauty up above and things you never take notice of
You wake and suddenly you’re in love

Week 19 – Procrastination I Destroy With Action

I Am The Captain Of My Soul - Procrastination

In Og Manino’s Scroll V he says, “Procrastination I destroy with action. Doubt I bury under faith. Fear I dismember with confidence. Where there are idle mouths I listen not. Where there are idle hands I linger not. Where there are idle bodies I visit not. Henceforth I know that to court idleness is to steal food clothing and warmth from those I love; I am not a thief. I am a man of love and today is my last chance to prove my love and my greatness.” He emphasizes this and each phrase in this scroll with the statement, “I live this day as if it is my last.”

If each of us were to live every day this way, how much easier it would be a recognize and claim our hero’s journey. So, what stands in our way of recognizing and taking that leap of faith? I put to you that it is to become self-less or ego-less. Not that I did not understand it when we were taught about being kind and about the 7 Day Mental diet, rather I did not see it’s integration and dependency created into all that we are, do and have (or have not).

Procrastination is an effect and not a cause and as Haanel repeated refers back to our “Ideal” and the principles and their opposites, I see more clearly the need to create my own internal, law of substitution arsenal to defend my young and immature selfless self. If I don’t defend him, the old blueprint (the dragon) will surely cause him to cower in fear and self-doubt and shrink backing away for the precipice from which I must launch my leap into my hero’s journey.

So, my actions (the actions of a thinking man) are as follows:

  1. I added an additional card to my daily Blueprint Builder reading which contains the following:
    • Today I begin a new life
    • I greet this day with love in my heart
    • I am natures greatest miracle
    • I live this day as if it is my last…
    • I will add each new scroll’s key phrase as I progress through Mandino’s workbook
  2. I added the following cards to the top of my Gratitude deck
    • What would the wealthy, productive me do in this moment? (for when I stall and become indecisive thus giving me ammunition against the attack of procrastination)
    • What mental image or though generates makes me feel energetic and motivated to “Do It Now”?
    • What mental image or though generates makes me feel Brave, Confident and Committed to “Do It Now”?
  3. I also started a journal to capture the answers to the questions in #2 such that I can begin to create response cards to invoke the antidote to procrastination which is ACTION! I’ve merged this with my Reliving a moment each day activities and will build my armory such that no assault of the mundane or onslaught of the information overload so prevalent in our society today will be able to overcome me. Rather, “I fail not as the others, for in my hands I now hold the charts which guide me through perilous water to shore which only yesterday seemed but a dream…” “I persist and develop my skills as the mariner develops his, by learning to ride out the wrath of each storm. I persist until I succeed.”

These tools I now craft to add to my sextant and compass to ensure I follow these charts laid before me to the lands and life of my own minds eye; for I am the captain of my soul…

by the English poet William Ernest Henley (1849–1903)

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
